Sofia Ngieng

Sofia Ngieng is an undergraduate student in political science and a recent resident at UBC.  Sofia lives in Hampton Place local area.

Each candidate was asked four questions about their connections to, and engagements within, the UNA. I provide the questions and candidates answers below. Rather than asking them about their political platform (we will hear a lot about that throughout the election) I asked them to reflect on the more personal aspects of their lives at UBC in the UNA community.

Describe how you are involved in the life of the UNA community.

As a fairly new resident to the UNA I have not had very many opportunities to get involved with the UNA which is why I am so excited to be running for the UNA Board of Directors. I love living at Hampton Place and really enjoy how friendly and welcoming everyone has been. I am looking forward to being able to contribute to my community positively and help create and maintain a place that is safe and welcoming towards all its residents.

What brought you to live in the UNA community?

My parents had been looking for an investment property for a few years and they decided that an apartment at UBC would be the perfect place to buy. After a brief house hunt we all decided that an apartment in the UNA was the best choice for everyone! I have enjoyed living here ever since.

Where in Canada, or the world, did you grow up? What about living in the UNA reminds you of your childhood home?

I grew in Chilliwack, BC. At first it was hard moving to Vancouver after living in a relatively small town, surrounded by mountains and large green spaces for farming and for recreation. Living in the UNA reminds me of my childhood home because of its proximity to so many beautiful outdoor spaces to explore. I thoroughly enjoy being out in nature and living in the UNA allows me to feel like I am at my childhood home.

How would you describe your normal daily routine?

My normal daily routine typically consists of attending my classes during the day, completing my homework and assignments, and attending meetings bi-weekly as an executive assistant for the UBC Pre-Law Society. Typically my days are pretty busy with coursework or extracurriculars. I don't like being idle so I typically always find something productive to do.
