The Mayor of Logan Lane: Spirit the cat.

The wonderful thing about a community network is how it connects people who aren’t necessarily crossing paths in other ways. Spirt the delightful neighbourhood cat is a case in point.

A couple of community engaged neighbourhood children, who knew Spirit on account of Spirit’s neighbourhood walks, mentioned their concern about Spirit – having noticed a missing patch of fur on a recent sighting of Spirit. They worried that maybe Spirit was living in the rough. A notice was sent out via a community list serve.

At the same time many of us our well aware of our local coyotes (like the one-legged Kip) who also live in our neighbourhood.

Who hasn’t seen the missing cat posters that turn up time to time?
Recently one white short-hair cat got lost, fell prey to a coyote attack, but was luckily rescued by a community member. The short hair was then reunited with it’s worried East Mall owners. As fortune would have it, the rescuers are Spirit's new caretakers!

Within a short time of having sent out the notice over the community email list I had received a half dozen emails connecting me with Spirit's new  home.  Spirit's caretaker explained that the missing patch of fur is from a trip to the vet (Spirit is fine and recovering nicely). Spirit is settling in, having been a patio visitor for several years previously. So Spirit's adaptation to new caretakers is going smoothly.

The neighbourhood children who were concerned were told as they trick or treated at our door. With so many other sad cat stories it is very nice to know that the Mayor of Logan Lane (also known as Spirit) continues to patrol the neighbourhood with a safe refuge to return to as needed.
